Raze
Power

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 13 tracks: 54 minutes, 49 seconds
Street Date: July 13th, 1999

The Christian music scene first met this dance band from Europe last fall with the release of their EP, That's the Way on Forefront Records. Their sound was very catchy consisting of rather bouncy, danceable tunes with some good beats. So by the time this album has come around, fans are ready for a new full-length helping from Raze. And from what I've heard. They won't be disappointed.

The album kicks off with this 4-piece vocal group's song "All Around the World," a definite highlight on the album and a song that seems a step beyond that which was heard on the EP. With a World Wide Message-reminiscent sound, the album leads into the second track "Lead Me," a groove-driven, rap-tinted, vocal-saturated album highlight. As I listen to the album I find many possible influences as I hear traces of Out of Eden, World Wide Message Tribe, old dc Talk, and sometimes I'm unfortunately reminded of the Backstreet Boys. The latter rings true in the sweet, slow, yet at times too fluffy "Place in My Heart," a love song to our Savior. However, where "Place in My Heart" falls short, "My Everything" makes up for it with it's slowed-down tempo mixed with real acoustic guitars delivering a sound more like that of old Church of Rhythm.

Things pick up and get funky with other good tracks like "Shoulder Shake," "Say the Word," "Change," and "Shouldn't it Be Me." Also, you may recognize a couple songs on the album. "In the Name" and "Always and Forever" return from the EP to be included on this disc along with the 11 new tracks.

Although it may not be among the best of the year, Power is one of the best of the summer and should find its way into numerous people's stereos this summer. A definite album to check out when it releases next month on the 13th.
