05. Blood In The Tears

Songs of Death and Resurrection
by Demon Hunter

Don’t come on quietly when you draw near. Don’t go on lightly, don’t leave me here.
I wither quickly in winter’s cold – but carry onward like I was told. And I wait for a sign...

Like blood in the tears of all my enemies (so they will see)
Knowing the pain the way they should.
Blood in the tears of all my enemies (given to me)
Leaving a trail to where You stood.

And when it’s quiet, when you can hear – I beg you take me away from here.
And I wait for a sign...

Like blood in the tears of all my enemies (so they will see)
Knowing the pain the way they should.
Blood in the tears of all my enemies (given to me)
Leaving a trail to where You stood.

Cleansing red. Wake the dead.

Like blood in the tears of all my enemies...
Knowing the pain the way they should.
Blood in the tears of all my enemies (given to me)
Leaving a trail to where You stood.

Like blood in the tears of all my enemies (so they will see)
Knowing the pain the way they should.
Blood in the tears of all my enemies (given to me)
Leaving a trail to where You stood.

Behind the Song:
When I first heard the opening notes to “Blood in the Tears” performed on piano—as opposed to the false harmonics from the original—I began to get very excited about this song all over again. The experience of being given a renewed sense of discovery for older material is a hard thing to put into words, but it’s made me very proud of what we’ve done over the past couple of decades. Many of the songs in this collection were originally album-closers. It often feels right to end a record on a somber, reflective note, rather than an aggressive one. Still, it can be painful to assign a favorite song to the furthest depths of a tracklisting. Revisiting and reimagining these songs allowed us to take another crack at how they might interact with one another under a new set of circumstances. Songs that were tucked further into an album now have the chance to sit front and center. —Ryan Clark
