One cannot discuss the great worship artists of today without at least mentioning Kari Jobe. With hits like "Forever," "Let Your Glory Fall" and "The Cause Of Christ" filling the airwaves, it's no wonder she has such popularity. Way back in 2007, however, Kari Jobe was a lesser-known artist than she is today, with only a few independent albums to her name. On December 10th, 2007, the first of several Kari Jobe Christmas albums was released (also independent; her first non-independent release was her self-titled album in 2010).
Bethlehem is an acoustic guitar/piano driven record, with almost all the tracks staying pretty mellow, with the exception of "White Christmas" and the latter half of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," which are more upbeat. The highlights of the record are "What Child Is This?," which really showcases Kari's ethereal vocals, as well as "The Christmas Song" and "The First Noel."
The only real flaws on the record is the scarcity of variety. A good portion of the tracks sound similar due to the reliance on piano, acoustic guitars, and an occasional slow drumbeat. Still, regardless, Bethlehem is a great listen for anyone who's a fan of slower renditions of Christmas carols. (Which is usually not me, but this album was an exception.)
