One year ago, pureNRG made their eventful debut. Now, with the release of their sophomore album, pureNRG is once again giving their young fanbase another does of good music. A lot has happened to this group since May 2007, including performances on Jump5's "Hello and Goodbye Tour" and the highly successful Winter Jam Tour. pureNRG also gained traction on Radio Disney with their song "Footloose," helping to introduce themselves to a bigger audience and to fill the void that Jump5's recent demise has left.

Despite their busy schedule, pureNRG found time to hit the studio to record all new tracks for this album. Looking back on their last project, the trio recorded several remakes and continues the trend on Here We Go Again. This time around, they chose to cover Nicole C. Mullen's "Call on Jesus," Marvin Gaye's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and a surprisingly catchy and well done version of Matthew West's ever popular song "More." "Girls Can Change the World" puts down spreading rumors and instead suggests spreading Christ's love - a message that anyone, a girl or not, should take to heart. "Inside Out" (which brings back lingering memories of Jump5's "Spinnin' Around") asks God for a heart ready to live unashamed for Him, and "BFF" and "That's What Friends Are For" thank God for friendship. Their style, both musically and lyrically, has not changed much since pureNRG, which is definitely a good thing. The group continuously praises God in every song, and never backs down in their effort to get their message across clearly to their listeners. "Get Up," the closing track, proves to be the standout, with a message that encourages putting aside our troubles and worries in order to spread Christ's love.

It's nearly impossible to criticize this record. Besides the possibility that they could've included a few more slow-tempo tracks, pureNRG has another near-perfect album aimed directly at the tweens. Parents and kids alike will be pleased once again. And pureNRG's future looks extremely bright as well - they're young, talented, and have a strong love for Christ. That combination could take them almost anywhere.

JFH Staff's Second Opinion

Just as their predecessors Jump5 grew from computerized dance-pop into more mature pop, pureNRG's Here We Go Again loses the techno elements and takes more of a stripped down approach. From first listen, it is obvious that each of the three members have had significant vocal improvements. Gone are the squeaky, childish vocals found on the debut. Songs like "Like," "Inside Out," and "Any Which Way" are prime examples of upbeat pop tunes, but are surprisingly done with "real" instruments. The title track has more of a rock vibe with crunching electric guitar riffs. Yet another Jump5 comparison is made here--- cover songs. This album has a whopping FIVE remakes! Renditions of Matthew West's "More" and Nicole C. Mullen's "Call On Jesus" tend to sound slightly immature. Of course, there's typical kid fun included. That can be found in the incredibly cheesy lyrics of "Like," the clichéd ramble of "BFF," and the encouragement anthem, "Girls Can Change The World." In a nutshell, nothing groundbreaking can be found here, but if you're looking for decent pop music without all the overproduction, this album is for you.
