Everytime I'm in New York City - or Andrew W.K.'s "I Love NYC" comes on - I think of the time I was a crime fighter with Mike Herrera on my first trip to The Big Apple. I was on tour with my friends, Run Kid Run, meeting up to join the Tooth & Nail Tour in 2007. The tour consisted of The Classic Crime, Sullivan, The Fold, and the headliner: MxPx. The tour was almost as if it was a celebration because MxPx was back on Tooth & Nail. Our boys were home! They were promoting the topic of this blurb: Secret Weapon. This record is packed full of pop punk goodness with some added edge and grit from their earlier records. I remember hearing them playing a song off this record live at the Irving Plaza in NYC that night and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this album. I was especially interested in this record when I heard that the great Aaron Sprinkle was producing it and that the master J.R. McNeely was mixing it. This record packs the pop punk punch we have come to expect from the boys from Bremerton. I'd love to go into the history that MxPx not only plays in my and Ravenhill's lives, but I imagine if you are following this thread, then we probably share that. We were all in awe of what MxPx did in the '90s. They still rocked in the '00s and, if you're paying attention, you know that they are still killing it to this day. Thank you Mike & Company for putting out great records.
(I could tell you the story of how Mike and I fought crime that night too, but I'll save that for another time.)
- Joshua Clifton of the band Ravenhill
