The first time I listened to this album (and its counterpart, Nervosa), I did so as the creators intended: I sat down in solitude in the dark of night, put on earbuds, and did nothing but listen to the music and read the accompanying stories. And I'm glad I did that, because the experience was tremendous. With no distractions, I absorbed wonderful art, and a story that showed me the nature of Jesus Christ through a couple of stories that seemed otherwise dark, lost, and hopeless. Showbread's offering here was loud and intrusive, quiet and somber, brash and unapologetically honest. Anorexia Nervosa is much too underrated. In a world full of people who would rather hit "shuffle" on a Spotify playlist than listen to a full album as intended by the artist, take a couple of hours out of your day to remind yourself that there's much more to music than that.
