I’ve always been a sucker for concept albums, especially those with great liner notes to accompany the story. In hindsight, it seems crazy that Showbread would choose to make not one, but two such albums at the same time. And of the two, Nervosa has always had the softer spot in my heart. It’s dark, it’s unrelenting, and, in the end, it’s wonderfully redemptive and Gospel-centered. To top it all off, it finishes with one of my favorite closing tracks of all time, with a Reese Roper guest spot that just blows the doors off. Revisiting this album is a reminder of how fortunate we were to be able to enjoy the daring, experimental, ever-so-whacky talents of Josh Dies and Showbread for so many years.
