#7. The Afters
Never Going Back To O.K.
Release Date: February 26

Has it really been almost three years since I Wish We All Could Win? That stellar record was one of those
rare mainstream releases that caused indie elitists to do a double take and say “Uh…I actually like that.”
Here’s to hoping their next release continues to bridge the gap....

It's been a few years since The Afters broke out onto the music scene with their label debut and the smash hit
"Beautiful Love." With the absence of a studio record from the band since 2005, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting
for this one!

So they tricked us out with a supposed 2007 release, but alas, Never Going Back To O.K. is here,
and since I already know it's quite tasty, I'd be cheating if we hadn't already picked them for this
list last year. And, oh look! They've moved up for this year's list...

Even if this release is a bit delayed, there's no reason not to be excited about the upcoming album
Never Going Back To OK. If anything, the long hiatus of The Afters should be a sign of a carefully-polished
project. And the band's new EP (now available on iTunes) contains three very solid tracks from the new album, a good
indication that Never Going Back to OK should meet - if not surpass - the level of I Wish We All Could Win...

2005 was a major year for The Afters. It's seemed as if this band faded away as soon as
their big hit saw a downplay on radio stations, but their greatness as a group has not been denied. This is their chance to
make a comeback; three years is a long time to work on new material, but enough time to perfect flaws and prepare
long-time fans for something grand. I'm interested in whether the band will do that or if it's merely an attempt
to take a stab at a genre overplayed...
