Ever since the guys began talking about recording Revival in Alabama, and promising it's nothing like what's currently on Christian radio, I've been excited to hear the band return to form.

According to the Facebook video Third Day posted promoting Revival, it sounds like they are going back to their roots musically, and this album may have a more folk/Americana sound to it. My hope is that they don’t completely forgo their radio-friendly rock sound, because they’re one of the few acts who execute it so well.

With early indications of the musical direction of Revival harkening back to their early sound, I’m pumped to see if it can stack up to classics like their self titled debut and Time. A staple on Christian radio, this longtime listener is anticipating a return of the rock!

I usually do a hard pass on Third Day, but the rumors of this being rootsier in sound has my attention for the time being.

After two decades of making music together, it would all too easy to forsake quality and churn our whatever Christian radio wants to hear, but Third Day have only continued to grow and evolve. Revival is looking to return to the southern rock leanings of earlier material, so if we get something akin to Move on this record we may see Revival finding a place on some year-end lists.

Third Day is at the point in their career where they can follow (mostly) any whim they have, and a true Gospel record, recorded at the legendary Muscle Shoals recording studio is an itch I’m glad they scratched. (Spoiler alert!) I’ve heard the whole album, and am happy to report that it sounds like one of the most authentic records the band has made in a long time. Mac and the gang power through a true Gospel Music album that sounds vintage and alive, with warm production and great songs, and would be great on vinyl. Fans may need to reference albums by Ben Harper and The Blind Boys Of Alabama to get a frame of reference for what the band is doing here. They even cover the great Paul Simon!

It’s been long time for an industry stalwart like Third Day to make a comeback, and all signs point to Revival being exactly that. Experience counts for a lot, and as the most tenured band on this list, Third Day could have a banner release on their hands.
