One step forward

Then two steps back

I’ve come to see there is a pattern

The sky is cloudy

The stars obscured

Why can’t I seem to stay on target?

You are all that’s constant in my life

And you turn my dark to light

You’re everything that’s right

But still I run away

And leave you at arms length

When you’re my only source of strength

Still there’s nothing I can say or do

To escape from you

The things I’ve leaned on

The ones I’ve loved

Fall and fade as time goes on

But you are different

You’re always there

I feel your presence in the air I breathe
