1st Day of preschool, balled up fists, and curly hair
Wide eyed you saw a band of buddies there
Relaxed your fist and grinned
And turned to your new friends
Bye Daddy, I think I’m gonna leave…(and off you went)

A few ballgames later, suddenly you turn six-teen
Snappin awkward pics at the DM-V
Raced your truck to Sonic
For chili tots with extra cheese
Thanks mama, I think I’m gonna leave

If you say you’re gonna leave you’re goin’ somewhere
But the place we wanna be is where you are
Though now is not the time,
You’re forever on our mind
We hope you always know we’re not too far,
If you say you’re gonna leave, you’re goin’ somewhere….

Left for college, learned some life, but just not happy
A mornin’ text, said “This is not my thing”,
Well son, you’re not alone
It’s ok when you know…
Pack up and come on home. -It’s time to leave.

If you say you’re gonna leave you’re goin’ somewhere
What matters most is knowin’ who you are
Though now is not the time,
It’s ok to change your mind
By now you oughta know, we’re not too far,
If you say you’re gonna leave, you’re goin’ somewhere….

Got your dream job, met a girl, and fell in love,
We knew soon, you’d move, to your own place,
We ate we laughed we hugged,
but it’d never be enough,
It was the last time here on Earth --we’d see your face

We got a late-night call, that broke our hearts, and bowed our knees
We believe - that there must be,- a plan that we can’t see
When First Responders told us your last words, they brought us peace,
I’m gonna leave, I’m gonna leave….

We know Somewhere is eternal
Somewhere’s full of love and full of joy
Somewhere’s a shining city, clear pure water golden streets—
And Somewhere is where God is
And also where you are.
And that someday, Somewhere is where—we’ll also be…

If you say you’re gonna leave you’re going somewhere
And we believe we know just where you are
And though it was your time
You’re forever on our mind
And we got hope and Somewhere’s not too far.
If you say you’re gonna leave, you’re goin’ somewhere….

-Oh and someday down the road, we’ll see you Somewhere.
