I searched the garden for the good

Expecting like a child

I thought that was livin’

But a different gift was given

I didn’t find the joy I thought I would

I sent my soul for what I wanted

You gave Yours for what I got instead

There’s more lives than mine hanging in the balance

And only You can make sense of it

So what is this You’ve given me?

A story that I didn’t want to tell

My understanding’s incomplet

You want more for me than what I know so well

Maybe it’s a different good

And all along I misunderstood

And if I’m being honest, it’s not what I thought I wanted

And I wouldn’t choose it for me

But if You see something I can’t see,

It’s just a different good

You’re sending me a tidal wave

Inviting me to be brave

I thought a holy message

Meant I’d always find it pleasant

I’m wondering if it’s more than I can take

But you don’t draw me like a riptide

You call me out onto my own two feet

It’s a delight with terror in it

To turn my heart to something never seen

So what is this You’ve given me?

An adventure I didn’t ask to be on

If all my life I’ve been asleep

I’m waking up, I’m diving in headlong

I’m waking up, I’m diving in

Your love is the tide I’m swimming in
