I set out on a narrow way, many years ago
Hoping I would find true love, along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign, pointed straight to you
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were just northern stars
Pointing me on my way, into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to you
I think about the years I spent, just passing through
I'd like to take the time I lost, and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of this grander plan, that is coming true
Every long lost dream, led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were just northern stars
Pointing me on my way, into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to you
Now I'm just rolling home
Into your loving arms
This much I know, is true
That God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to you
That God blessed the broken road
That lead me straight to you
Behind the Song:"We begin with our current single, "Bless the Broken Road" with Melodie Crittenden. Todd, Melodie, and I (Allan) have been friends since college. I've known Melodie for about 17 years now, and we even went to the same church for several years. When Nicol left the group in December 2004, Melodie stepped in for most of 2005. Many of you got to hear her with us on the Michael W. Smith tour last Spring, in addition to our own concert dates. Melodie had a country deal in the late 1990's and recorded this song for her debut album in 1998. It was a chart hit for her and was also used prominently in the Season One Finale show of "Dawson's Creek." When she joined us, Todd and I wanted her to have a spot in the concert where she would be featured on a song so people could get to know her better. We started performing "Broken Road" live in our concerts shortly afterward, and the audience response was so overwhelming we knew we had to record it. The song has meant much to Melodie over the years, especially since it tells her life story so well (you'll have to read our CD liner notes for that!). Folks have been asking us for quite some time now if the song was available on any of our CDs (which had not been the case at the time). We are VERY happy to report that at last, it is!" - Selah
