Band Needtobreathe, which recorded its fourth album "The Reckoning" in Charleston, is partnering with Commonwealth Cares Foundation to host the Needtobreathe Classic, a golf tournament benefiting Palmetto Medical Initiative. The tournament is set for Tuesday, March 19 at the Ralston Creek and Beresford courses at the Daniel Island Club.
This is the fifth year the Commonwealth Cares Foundation has hosted a charity golf tournament and the third year it will donate the proceeds to Palmetto Medical Initiative, a Charleston-based nonprofit committed to providing sustainable, quality health care to those in need while increasing accessibility to global medical missions. PMI has built a medical clinic in Masindi, Uganda, and last year launched a new initiative in Nicaragua.
Needtobreathe has been long-time supporters of PMI and has played in the annual golf tournament. This year the band is giving the event an extra boost by lending its name to the event and pulling in additional musicians and celebrities.
Musicians John Mark McMillan, Collective Soul and MercyMe also will participate in the golf tournament. Those performers, along with Needtobreathe, will play at an after party open only to sponsors, select guests and the first 30 foursomes to register for the golf tournament. Celebrity foursome packages are available for $5,000 and the foursome will be paired with a celebrity and receive passes to the after party.
Needtobreathe lead singer Bear Rinehart and Bo Rinehart, brothers from the Seneca, S.C., area, formed the band with drummer Joe Stillwell and bass player Seth Bolt. Much of their music is played on Christian radio, but they have charted on mainstream pop charts. In 2011, they were part of the Taylor Swift Speak Now North American Tour.
Cost for the Needtobreathe Classic is $300 for individual player registration and $1,200 for a team of four. Register online or call 843-884-4545.
Needtobreathe is currently in the studio recording their fifth studio album, set to release later this year.
