If you have ever filled out any medical forms, then you have probably had to write out your medical history, along with the medical history for your family members. This can be pretty sobering, and even alarming sometimes, especially since our health care providers and insurance providers can judge us according to these histories. In my case, I come from three generations of osteoporosis. This is a disease that weakens bones, making them fragile, porous, and highly susceptible to fractures, often from minor falls or daily activity. It is often referred to as a "silent killer," because many do not know they have it until they suffer a serious fracture.
Recently, I had a medical bone scan, and even though I am in my 70s, this test clearly showed that I have better bone density than the average youth. Most people would say that it was because I eat a lot of protein, and I exercise almost every day. But the truth is that it's mainly because God showed me years ago how to stand on His promises for bone strength.
Proverbs 3:7-8 (NKJV) says, "Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones." I take this promise seriously and personally, and I trust the Lord to keep His Word, and to strengthen my bones, as I do my best each day to hear and to heed His voice. Another promise that I stand on daily says, "The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong." (Isaiah 58:11 ESV) These promises in the Word of God reveal His heart for us - that He wants us to live in good health, and to have good, strong bones all the days of our lives.
Jesus told two blind men, "According to your faith let it be done to you." (Matthew 9:29 NIV) If I had taken a passive stance toward my family history, I might very well have osteoporosis today. Instead, God challenged me to exercise my faith to override the odds against me, and to lay hold of a miracle for my health and body. Today, I urge you, resist resignation! Remember that Jesus said, "All things are possible for the one who believes and trusts [in Me]!" (Mark 9:23 AMP) Dare to defy the odds, and to receive all the good things that God has in store for you!
Prayer: Lord, help me to resist taking a passive or fatalistic approach to life. Remind me that you have called me to be an overcomer, and more than a conqueror through Christ. (Romans 8:37) Teach me how to partner with You to receive Your absolute best in every situation and circumstance. Thank You that ALL things are possible for me because of my faith in You and your incomparable power!
