When our electric clothes dryer began making screeching noises every time we used it, my husband, Joe, and I prayed for God's wisdom to find out if we should invest a considerable amount of money in it, or buy a new one. Once we decided to replace it, we kept praying as we shopped online and in local stores, but we always came up empty. At the time, we were in the midst of a global pandemic, which had caused a worldwide appliance shortage. We discovered that availability could be delayed until well into the following year. I was so frustrated and distracted that I was neglecting my ministry work. As I cried out to God, I heard Him speak to my heart, "You take care of My business, and I'll take care of yours." I forced myself to sit at my computer and begin writing a new devotional message, and that's when my breakthrough came in a big way. The Lord provided us with the perfect new appliance at an extraordinary price, and we were able to bring it home with us the same day.
Years ago, I heard a godly man say, "Putting God's interests first always results in our needs being met." Scripture confirms this when it says: "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need." (Matthew 6:33 NLT) When I was focused on my own needs, I couldn't hear from God. I was praying and searching constantly, but nothing was happening in my situation. And I was getting more and more frustrated all the time. As soon as I shifted gears and began focusing on God's interests, and what He wanted me to do, things began falling into place.
Perhaps today, the Lord has something specific that He wants YOU to do. He will show you the way when you stop, ask, and listen for His voice. It could be that He is trying to tell you right now - "You take care of My business, and I'll take care of yours…"
Prayer: Lord, teach me how to continually seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness - Your way of doing and being right - so that You can freely and abundantly supply all of my needs, and then some. (Matthew 6:33 AMPC) Thank You that when I take care of Your business, You will take care of mine!
