Perhaps you have heard someone ask, "Why do we have to tell God what's bothering us if He already knows everything?" There are many explanations, but let me touch on just a couple of them here.

Have you noticed that if you talk over a problem with a sympathetic loved one, you often begin to see it from a new perspective? Well, when we tell God what worries us, as the verse above says, we often gain new insights that make our problems seem less scary, and a lot more manageable. What's interesting is that the insights we receive from God are not natural - they are supernatural. No amount of talking with a fellow human can provide us with insights like these. The Bible says, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!" (Proverbs 16:16 NIV) When we seek after divine wisdom and insight, we receive custom-made solutions that can only come from Heaven.

Another reason why the Lord tells us to share our worries with Him is that He likes to reward humility. It takes a spirit of humility to tell God that we are scared, anxious, or worried, and that we need His help. On the other hand, a spirit of pride says, "I can handle this" or "I've got this!" Scripture says, "Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." (Proverbs 11:2 NLT) The Lord is eager to impart His own kind of wisdom to those who humbly seek Him. He will not allow us to be disgraced when we ask for His assistance, even in matters that seem trivial or unimportant.

The Passion Translation of Psalm 55:22 says, "So here's what I've learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you." Trying to carry our cares and worries ourselves will only weaken us, while laying them down before the Lord will empower us with His "measureless grace." Are you prepared to tell God what is worrying you today?

Prayer: Lord, when I am tempted to worry about something, please remind me that Your Word tells me not to worry about anything, but to pray about everything. (Philippians 4:6) Give me an understanding of how much You love it when I share my honest thoughts and concerns with You. Thank You that as I humble myself before You, and depend on You for all of my needs, I will experience Your measureless grace and peace!
