01. We Once Were

We Once Were
by Rush Of Fools

Hiding will always be the easy way
Just to stay
Safer will never really make a change anyway
Silence is living underneath the pain
Of reality
Leaving nothing but a shade of gray
That will waste away
No way, no way
We can't stay the...

Same as we once were
Living in the blur
Looking backwards
We can see that we'll never
Be who we once were
Be who we once were

Sometimes others want to think that we
Are their heroes
Closer you can hear a broken tune
No way, no way
We can't stay the...

Same as we once were
Living in the blur
Looking backwards
We can see that we'll never
Be who we once were

Now we feel our hearts beating out
We feel our lungs breathing
Now we feel our hearts
And we're never going back
Never going back
No we're never going back to the

Same as we once were
Living in the blur
Looking backwards
We can see that we'll never
Be who we once were
Be who we once were
Who we once were
Who we once were

Behind the Song:
"The title track tells our new story in one song, and even in three words. We. Once. Were. Life happens in stages, we know this. As followers of Jesus, it's a really messy set of stages, at least for the people in our lives as well as ourselves. Looking back on the journey that God has taken us on, it's vibrantly clear that we are not the same band that any of us knew in 2007. It's not that this metamorphosis is as noticeable on the outside as it is on the inside, but we're just different. We HAVE to be. It's the beauty and the reality of life, and the way God chose to orchestrate things. Four years ago, our drummer was graduating from high school, and now he has facial hair! Four years ago, one of us was married, and now three of us are. Four years ago, there were no children in the pictures, and now we have two fathers with more children on the way. So we're not who we once were, because God is still at work. Praise Him for that. This record is all about God. How He molds His kids. How He cares for us. How He will never let us be the same as we once were." - Rush of Fools
