As I Lay Dying is a San Diego based hardcore band created in 2000; that has gone through a name change, two members leaving to join former Solid-State-now-Pluto-Records recording artist Society's Finest, and one to Militia's Noise Ratchet while lead vocalist Tim Lambesis left SF to start afresh with As I Lay Dying, themselves. The band has played with about every Solid State band you can name as well as Pax217, Dogwood, Spoken, and Papa Roach. Beneath the Encasing of Ashes is their debut release on Pluto Records.
With an underlying growl and musicianship that keeps you guessing, As I Lay Dying is a delightful addition to the hardcore scene. Lyrics that turn from hopeless to hope-filled; this is a reputable addition to their soaring heavy medleys. The last thing that the Dying does is drag a song on, as they clock in at almost 30 minutes, which is pretty impressive for 12 tracks. But don't get me wrong, a lot happens in this short time, and trust me, the last thing you'll do is get bored. Screamo hardcore fans will definitely not be disappointed when they pick up Beneath The Encasing Of Ashes, because from under the rubble of the charred remains of some of their counterparts, As I Lay Dying will withstand the blaze.
