Roughly two years ago, DecembeRadio made their Slanted Records debut with their self-titled album, bringing us a sound whose influences ranged from AC/DC to Joe Walsh to straight-up modern rock. Now, as is popular in the music industry today, the album has been re-delivered to listeners, with new artwork, two new tracks, and a couple CD-rom bonuses.
The first of the new songs, titled "Find You Waiting," fits in very well with the rest of the album. Despite a ten-second gap between this track and the preceding "Least of These," you would think that it was originally the closing track if you didn't know any better. Keeping very Christ-centered in the lyrics department, vocalist Josh Reedy sings about the ease of walking away from God, and the wonder of how He will always be waiting for us when we fall back on our knees looking for Him. Next is the second of the two additions, which isn't totally new, it's just a new take on one of their songs - an acoustic rendition of "Love Found Me (Love's Got A Hold)." It's an odd choice of a song to make acoustic, as it's one of the more upbeat of the mix, and the outcome holds a little less power than its plugged-in counterpart. However, it's nice that they didn't pick what would be the most obvious song for an acoustic remix, "Drifter."
They did that too, though. Upon accessing the CD-rom features on your computer, you will discover two new videos. One of them is a recording of the guys playing an acoustic version of their hit song, "Drifter." It's almost like watching a Saturday Night Live performance, with SNL sharing the performance stage with the Dove Awards. The other video is an interview with the band, giving the fan a chance to get to know the guys. On top of that, the bonus content gives you... a link to their website. It's nice to have stuff like this that you can't really find anywhere else, but what about a music video or something?
The dreaded re-release of an album is always greeted with a few sighs and frowns. It almost forces the band's fans to spend another fifteen bucks just to get a few new tracks. In this case, if you already have the original DecembeRadio, don't bother with this one. If you really really need the two new songs, just get them from iTunes or another similar online retailer, and then sit back and wait for a real new release from this talented band.
