Joining in the recent trend of re-releasing albums with additional tracks, Disciple released its self-titled album as a limited edition DualDisc version last summer. The project contains all the songs found on the original release as well as four extra songs and a short DVD. While fans are always eager for more music, the problem with re-releases is whether or not they are worth purchasing if one already has the original album.
The first track, "I Feel You," starts strongly with a catchy guitar riff. While the song is enjoyable, it does not sound much different from the rest of the songs on the album. "Suicide" is an uplifting song in true Disciple fashion that reminds listeners struggling with depression that there is hope. The third bonus song, "Things Left Unsaid," is the true gem among the bonus tracks. Melodic and heartfelt, the song addresses the pain of watching a loved one pass away. With lyrics like, "If you fly away tonight, I want to tell you that I'm sorry that I never told you when we were face to face," "Things Left Unsaid," may be one of the strongest tracks on the entire album. The album ends with "Pain," a rocking track about letting things go.
The question begs to be asked, "Is this album worth purchasing?" For one who does not own the original release, the answer is a resounding, "yes!" The album as a whole is one of Disciple's strongest, and the bonus songs only make it stronger. For those who already own the original release, the inclusion of "Things Left Unsaid," along with the DVD material may be reason enough to buy the DualDisc version. Marginal fans, however, may want to skip the re-release.
