Vienna Rose Dare (better known as V.Rose) has been making music since 2007. Her latest EP, entitled Hearts Up, finds the artist continuing to refine her brand of bubblegum pop music.

The EP opens with a toe-tapping beat in "Fairy Tale Ending," which tells about how much better her life has become since God has entered it. Her vocals soar throughout the song, and her genuineness is very apparent. An upbeat, poppy anthem called "Love Shaped Heart" encourages listeners who may struggle with liking what they see in the mirror, and it urges them to care more about their heart than their outward appearance. Assisted by Derek Minor, "Take a Broken Heart" is V.Rose taking a stab at hip hop. While the song has a wonderful message about God's healing, it sounds out of place amidst power pop tracks. The song is also repetitive, relying on the same handful of lines being rapped with little variation. The final song, "Bottom to the Top," is autobiographical, as V.Rose describes her humble beginnings in the music business that led to her current position. She also swears to her fans that she will not betray her roots or compromise herself as she gains popularity. It's a nice promise that she will use her music to help lead people to God, not just use it to elevate herself. The music is slower, but has a catchy beat to it, and highlights V.Rose's vocal abilities.

With only four songs, Hearts Up is only a small offering of what V.Rose can do. Though the songs can sometimes venture into cheesiness and repetitiveness, the album does a great job of showing that V.Rose has a lot of potential. It will be interesting to see how her music evolves for her next full-length album.
