Jonas Brothers
It's About Time

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 11 tracks: 35 minutes, 49 seconds
Street Date: August 8, 2006

Nowadays, when you hear the name Jonas Brothers, the faces of Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas pop into your head immediately. But back when the trio's debut, It's About Time, came out they weren't the semi-well-known Disney Channel stars they are today.

The opening track, "What I Go to School For," is a remake of Busted's original with changes in the lyrics that make the song more family friendly. The lyrics discuss a guy having a crush on a girl older than he is, "Can't tell my friends cause they will laugh/ I love a girl from Senior class." Things pick up in the next track "Time for Me to Fly," which has that "stomp your feet, snap your fingers to the beat" feel. Things don't chill down in the album as their smash hit "Year 3000" follows, which is also a remake of one of Busted's songs.

"One Day at a Time" describes the feelings after a relationship has just ended ("Everything I do/ Brings me back to you/ And I die/ One day at a time"), but they speed things back up in the next track, "6 Minutes," which is again about relationships. The track "Mandy" is a catchy song with an infectious beat that the Jonas Brothers wrote for their friend who is also Joe's ex-girlfriend.

They then slow things down with the next track, "You Just Don't Know It," which describes liking someone who doesn't know you exist, bluntly stating, "Can't you feel it/ The way I look at you/ Girl, can you hear it/ I'm crying out inside." They then speed things back up again with the track "I Am What I Am," which states they won't change because of what people think, "I am what I am/ And nobody else/ And if you got a problem better take it somewhere else."

"Underdog" talks about a girl who is unpopular and original. It is nice for some girls to relate to however, "One day/ They'll see/ How beautiful she really is." The track "7:05" describes a break up, but still remains somewhat positive, "If you're gone/ I'll move on." The final track, "Please Be Mine," is a love song and a personal favorite on the album.

Overall, It's About Time is a decent, positive pop rock album. It actually has been announced that the actual album is now a collector's item since the Jonas Brothers have switched to Hollywood Records. My opinion is, if you're looking for a fun album with more Christian-based lyrics, check out What Are You Waiting For? by FM Static or Letters to the President by Hawk Nelson. But if you're looking for a positive pop rock album, you will probably enjoy this album.

JFH Staff's Additional 2 Cents

Perhaps it's just because this is the kind of record aimed at kids half my age, but musically, Jonas Brothers' debut is about as polished and loaded with saccharine as you can find in the "pop/rock" genre. Lyrically, It's About Time isn't really about much at all, serving as a hyperactive distraction from middle school homework. With much more meaningful and inspiring alternatives to choose from, young folks should almost be insulted to be expected to digest an album like this. - 1/1/08, John DiBiase
