READER RATING:

Well, it's an honor to be able to review yet another Caedmon's Call album. Right off the bat, I'd like to say I thoroughly enjoyed this album. It doesn't stray too far from their previous album, 40 Acres, and they still have that same lovable tone!

I really enjoyed "Ballad of San Francisco," with it being such a happy, sappy, funky, fun song. It makes me want to dance, sing, and clap (the whistling part was a plus). Other songs I liked includes "Valleys Fill First" which had really good guitar, bridge, and nice harmonizing. "Can't Lose You" contains a catchy guitar part. "Prepare Ye the Way" has great lyrics, simple but effective percussion, and wonderfule female BGVs (background vocals). "Love Is Different" is a beautiful song with a pretty banjo part. "What You Want" was a personal favorite that I felt to need to repeat after giving the CD a listen.

"Masquerade" had an interesting Christmas sound to it but I didn't enjoy it as much as the others. "Dance" was good but a bit monotonous as it drew to a close. Keep up the great work, guys!

JFH Staff's Additional 2 Cents

Caedmon's Call and electric guitars?! Choosing to plug in while sticking with tremendous lyricists like Aaron Tate as non-touring partners was a great choice. The band continues to shine with tracks like the soaring "The Only One" and its tasty organ high in the mix. Other highlights are "Love is Different," "Prepare Ye the Way," "Prove Me Wrong," "Valleys Fill First," "Love Alone," and "Piece of Glass." Another hit (and third in a row) in a short period (1997-2000) cements the band as a must of the genre. - 2/3/24, Josh Balogh of Jesusfreakhideout.com
