SEU Worship
Move of God

Genre(s): Worship
Album length: 11 tracks: 75 minutes
Street Date: June 7, 2024

READER RATING:

Hailing from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, SEU Worship is a collective of believers that collaborate between the student body, faculty, and alumni to create a sound of worship that resonates with the next generation. The group mixes pop and sounds that reflect the current culture of worship today. Their previous project, Heart Cry (2022) was a favorite of mine and I've been curious to see where the group would go next. The group's latest project, Move of God, is a reflection of the continuous worship culture happening on their campus through the prophetic lyrics that form beautiful melodies. With features from ONE HOUSE, a collective from California, and Roosevelt Stewart, Move of God doesn't offer anything new, but with beautiful lyrics and great worship-led moments, this project is solid.

The title track, "Move of God," led by longtime member David Ryan Cook, is a solid opening track. It's your typical corporate worship song that's declarative and wastes no time in presenting the theme and heart behind the project. The bridge lines are as clear as can be: "We need a move of God / We need a move of God / We need a move of God / We're hungry, we're desperate / Lord open the heavens." "Oil And Offering," led by longtime member Sydney James, is a response to be every bit more like Jesus -- to be holy as He is holy. The next two tracks are arguably my favorites on the project. "Slower I Go," led by longtime member Chelsea Plank, calls for us to slow down. Personally, in my own life, I'm quick to move onto the next thing, and Jesus wants me to do nothing more than to slow down and meet Him wherever I am. My favorite part of the song is repetitive, but hits much deeper the more I say it: "We're not in a hurry / We're not in a hurry." Chelsea Plank does a fantastic job carrying the heart of this one.

"What A God" speaks on the love and beauty of the Father. "God, You are my everything," sings the track, but it's once again the bridge that takes this one to new heights: "If the highest place I reached is at Your feet Then I've done it all / If the best thing that I've seen is Your glory Then I've seen it all / Your love has changed my life / Forever satisfied / God, You are my everything." Featuring One House and Roosevelt Stewart who leads this with such confidence, "What A God" is a winner. For people that like a long worship song, there's a 12-minute extended version at the end of the album that showcases Stewart and Plank so well. Incredible.

A new version of the popular SEU track, "Monday Morning Faith," led by Dahlia Reyes and Natalia Reyes, is an unexpected addition here. Even after hearing the original track countless times, this one still feels right even with new voices at the helm. The leading single, "FREE!," led by David Ryan Cook, offers a different, unexpected sound from SEU. It features an edgy guitar, catchy lyrics, and a driving beat that is easily a battle cry-like anthem. This track is fun, but definitely not my favorite. "Motives," "Presence of The Lord," "You Are Good" and "Send Me" are all nice additions to the album as well.

In the end, Move of God may not break the mold, but it's likely to sit well with listeners that are into today's corporate worship.
