Lecrae
Real Talk

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 15 tracks
Street Date: 2004

More and more Christian rap artists are being recognized in the mainstream media, and one of the newest names to pop up is Lecrae, signed courtesy of Reach Records, who is endorsed by Cross Movement Records. In the few short years Lecrae has been doing music, he has blown the mainstream and Christian markets to pieces with his solid beats and catchy choruses. But the rapper always keeps things strictly Christ-centered, as one not ashamed to say God's name in his lyrics.

Lecrae's debut album Real Talk is truly a 'straight to the point' record. With a concise mixture of true talent and inspiration from God, each song has that blatant regard for Christ that most rappers in the Christian market used to. Highlights flood the album, like the very straight-forward "Souled Out," the energetic rock/rap hybrid "Crossover," the beat driven "Take Me As I Am," and the synth flavored "Who U Wit." There really aren't many songs on the album that any rap fan can't just bob their heads to, as exampled in the gangster flavored "Represent," which is reminiscent of secular rap icon Lil' John and features label-mate Tedashii. Another highlight is "Heaven Or Hell," which urges listeners to make the right decision and follow God or face the consequences.

Overall, Lecrae's first major solo release is by far an intelligent and well-fashioned rap album. Lecrae knows how to flow, and it will be interesting to see how he continues his career.
