Paul Wright was hard at work last year, working on compiling new material to form latest project entitled Wright Or Wrong: These Songs Are Pauls. He first came on the scene back in 2003 when he signed his record contract with Gotee Records, releasing his debut Fly Away. Two years later, he released his sophmore album Sunrise To Sunset, which showcased his progression, maturity, and true talent as a musician. Fans may notice that this isn't exactly a "new" album from Wright. In fact, this record is just two of his previous digital EP's connected together, consisting of mostly b-side material, as a whole for one single retail release.
Starting off is the disco-flavored "Saturday," a party track designed to get the listener dancing. The hit single "Lately" follows suit, but has a more positive, spiritual message with an acoustic hip-hop vibe to match. "My Everything" is a raw, contemporary worship song with elements of Paul's signature freestyling, while "Radio" is a straight-up hip-hop track about a past love interest of Paul's. The rest of the record is mainly made up of stripped-down acoustic riffs that Paul does fairly well with.
Overall, this album is mediocre and leaves you dissatisfied. I was really expecting more diversity lyrically and especially musically. The only song I personally happen to like is "Lately." The others just seemed somewhat boring, bleak, and a bit flavorless. It would have been nice to have songs similar to his previous work, such as "Your Love Never Changes," "Walk On Water," or "Take This Life," but maybe that's asking too much of Mr. Wright.
