Lucerin Blue hit the scene with Tooth and Nail in 2003. Their only album, Tales of the Knife, caught the attention of Tooth and Nail's faithful and rock fans alike. Lucerin Blue was a hybrid of sorts musically. Some of their material was just hard rock, but some songs also had nu metal and screamo influences. Tales of the Knife came out with a lot a promise and was an album I personally spent quite a bit of time listening to back then. The vocals weren't always on point, but the music remained enjoyable throughout. I actually listened to the album again a few days ago and after years of silence, it was better than I expected it to be. Musically, Lucerin Blue could blend in with the bands of today -- now 11 years later - and the advances in production could likely fill in the gaps where the vocals were weaker.
Lucerin Blue released a couple songs and demos via MySpace and PureVolume and promised a 2nd full-length album in 2005. In fact, their PureVolume page currently states, "NEW ALBUM DROPPING LATE SUMMER 2005 (SERIOUSLY!!!)." Outside of those close to the situation, not many know what really happened with Lucerin Blue. The band appeared to be progressing and moving forward and then, one day, they weren't. Lucerin Blue disbanded in late 2005. The songs they were supposedly recording have never been released and a promising band seemingly ended overnight. Stories of missed shows and failed entries into the US from Canada are on the web, but the break-up still remains largely unexplained. Tales of the Knife remains a worthy addition and an album that still has plenty of enjoyability even today. You may even hear "Monday in Vegas" occasionally on different Christian rock radio outlets.
