#5. Anberlin
untitled
Release Date: Sometime 2010
|
The gents of Anberlin have proven themselves repeatedly while signed to both an indie and major label,
and with the deluxe edition of New Surrender tiding us over until their 2010 offering, the quintet
does a good job of keeping themselves in their fans' minds throughout the year. Really, we don't know exactly
where Anberlin is going to take us next, but I couldn't be more enthralled to hear new material from
these legends-to-be...

It is my humble opinion that Anberlin can do no wrong. Even though 2008's New Surrender sometimes
looked like a step backward from the career-defining Cities, it was still packed with enough hooky,
anthemic rock to keep this long-time fan happy. So of course the early buzz for their fifth studio album has
me thrilled. Online hints from band members suggest something "less poppy" and "darker" this time around.
Perhaps another shot at the magic of Cities? I sure hope so.

Every time these guys crank out a new recording, it's special. Each successive album proves to be their new
personal best, and the upcoming release should be no exception.

Their first album on their new label, Universal, was a big hit with Anberlin fans, but left me very
disappointed (due in part to it releasing not that long after the amazing Cities). But Anberlin
is a great band, and I honestly feel like maybe that was just a fluke. Coming up on their fifth studio album,
they'll definitely pull out some bigger guns and give their fans something wonderful.

I can’t say enough about this band, as they are currently a favorite of mine. Their first three albums were
unforgettable, however, their last album, New Surrender, although it was decent,
wasn’t remembered as much as previous projects. Here is hoping they give us something as good as
Cities which will be quite a feat.

With New Surrender, Anberlin proved that they had successfully weathered the
transition to a major record label. With four excellent albums behind them, expectations couldn't
be higher for the next one.
