#7. Kevin Max
Broken Temples
Release Date: November 25, 2014

Kevin Max can really be an enigma, can't he? He went from being an MIA indie songwriter to being the lead singer of one of the most recognized names of the industry, and now he's on his own again for Broken Temples. He can't be put in a box, which is pretty respectable. I'm holding back on drawing too many conclusions based on "Infinite," but I'm ready for some surprises from the veteran.

In all honesty, K-Max's exit from Audio Adrenaline was inevitable. He has always been an independent soul when it comes to his music, so the fact that he wasn't keen on Fair Trade's vision for AA's future comes as no surprise. Thankfully, though, it frees up a great artist to make the music he wants to make, and possibly for the biggest audience he has had since he released Stereotype Be.

The news of Kevin joining Audio Adrenaline was odd, but the news of him leaving so soon after making a great record was heartbreaking - especially given Audio A's new direction. Kevin seemed to be hitting his stride as a songwriter yet again and I cannot wait to hear this collection of songs.

Stereotype Be is still one of best post-dc Talk solo albums from any of the trio, and with Kevin promising a diverse but catchy new batch of songs (that were originally pitched for the next Audio Adrenaline record), Broken Temples ought to be one of the best albums of Max's solo career.

The early returns on Broken Temples are promising. "Infinite" is a groovy song that the Air 1 folks should really give some spins to. Max is a steely veteran now, and can write in all sorts of "voices". I think Audio A (or whatever you call that consortium of managers and record company folks) dropped the ball on this album. It might be the best thing you hear this summer.
