I first saw these young men on tour with the wonderful Andrew Peterson years ago when they first began to shave. But now these sons of Steven Curtis Chapman are ranging far in their adulthood, and 2014's When I Was Younger was a great slice of alterna-pop that sounded like a trip to a John Hughes 80's movie (think Breakfast Club or 16 Candles) mixed with Coldplay and The Killers. The singles from Only The Lonely continue in this vein, and this one is an early contender for Album Of The Year. "This Beautiful Lie" sounds like an Irish folk song blessing, and "You Know It" rocks like classic Elvis Costello. Great stuff…

An up-and-coming talent, Colony House (comprised of two of Steven Curtis Chapman's sons and two friends) has been making waves on the outskirts of the Christian music industry. Their sound is both fresh and accessible--a difficult combination to pull off. The singles for Only The Lonely aren't quite as strong as the best cuts on When I Was Younger, but even so, I'm expecting this to be a must-have for alternative rock fans.

When I Was Younger was one of those rare debut releases that gave away, not only signs of the band's potential and talent but one of the best pop/rock releases in recent memory. I can feel the weight of expectation these guys must have been carrying when they wrote this album. Only the Lonely is sounding just as fresh and exciting as their debut and I cannot wait to hear more.
