Hail gladdening light
Of your pure glory poured
Who is the immortal Father
Heavenly blessed
Oh holiest of holies
Jesus Christ our Lord
And now we have come
To the sun’s hour of rest
The lights of evening round us shine
We hymn the Father, Son, Spirit divine
Worthiest art thou at all times to be sung
Oh with undefiled tongue
Son of our God, giver of life alone
Son of our God, giver of life alone
Son of our God, giver of life alone
Therefore in all the world thy glories Lord thy own
Behind the Song:'Phos Hilaron (Φῶς Ἱλαρόν) is the earliest known Christian hymn, outside of Holy Scripture, still in use today. It was originally written in New Testament Greek and is referred to in English as ‘Hail Gladdening Light’ or ‘O Resplendent Light’. There is a thread woven through this album and this is the beginning – the history of music in the Christian church. DC*B does have some history with this hymn. There exists documentation of it recorded in 1998 by DC*B (then appearing as the UBC band) at a club (Caravan of Dreams) in downtown Ft. Worth. Later, in the year 2001, DC*B would participate in a weekly gathering of college students in Atlanta Georgia referred to as Passion on the Hill. Each gathering would begin with a recitation of this hymn and the lighting of the lamp.' - David Crowder
