10. The Hope Of Jesus

Peace Be Still
by Hope Darst

No weapon formed against me will stand
No power of darkness will win
I am convinced of this
I’ll stake my life on this
No enemy I face will prosper
No power in hell will prevail
I am convinced of this
I’ll stake my life on this

The hope of Jesus will not fail
It never has, it never has, it never has
The hope of Jesus will endure
Forevermore, forevermore, forevermore

For freedom I have been set free
My Savior holds every victory (Oh)
I am convinced of this
I’ll stake my life on this
(Oh) I am convinced of this
I’ll stake my life on this

The hope of Jesus will not fail
It never has, it never has, it never has (Oh)
The hope of Jesus will endure
Forevermore, forevermore, forevermore
My hope is in You Lord
You never fail me and You won’t start now

Every lie, every chain
Every sickness, it will break
Every fear, all my shame
It stays buried in the grave
Every lie, every chain
Every sickness, it will break
Every fear, all my shame
It stays buried in the grave

Cause He tore through the veil
And destroyed the gates of hell
He’s alive, He’s awake
He has risen from the grave
Yes, He’s alive, He’s awake
He has risen from the grave

The hope of Jesus will not fail
It never has, it never has, it never has (Oh)
The hope of Jesus will endure
Forevermore, forevermore, forevermore (Oh)

The hope of Jesus will not fail (It will not fail)
It never has (It never has), it never has (it never has)
It never has (Oh I know)
The hope of Jesus will endure (It will endure)
Forevermore, forevermore, forevermore (Oh)
Forevermore, forevermore, forevermore (Oh)
Forevermore, forevermore, forevermore

Behind the Song:
"When we started working on this record, there was one songwriter that I really dreamed of collaborating with, Jason Ingram. It was such a huge honor that he said yes and helped us find this song. The day Jonathan Smith and I showed up to write with Jason, I had no idea that this song was gonna pour out of us so quickly. Jason knew I really wanted to write something congregational. We just started talking and sharing our stories about Jesus changing our lives. Jason began to sing this chorus melody and the hope of Jesus lyrics and I knew we were headed in the right direction. As we began fleshing out the chorus, there was a moment that I just grabbed the mic, started pacing the room, and began singing the bridge lyrics top down. It just flowed out all at once, the lyrics and melody. It actually took us all off guard a little because none of us were expecting that. We then dove into the verses and a few hours later it was complete. This song is so powerful and it declares something that I am passionate about, the hope of Jesus never fails. Later when we were in pre-production to record the song, I couldn’t shake the sense that there was supposed to be another set of lyrics in the bridge that really painted the picture of why the hope of Jesus never fails - the cross and resurrection. So we added the lyrics “Cause He tore the veil, and destroyed the gates of hell, He’s alive, He’s awake, He has risen from the grave” When Jonathan threw out the lyric “He’s alive, He’s awake,” I think I started jumping up and down because I could feel the power of that lyric in my bones. I can’t wait for people to hear this song and remember that the hope of Jesus has never failed and never will!

1 John 5:13-14 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
