Ten years ago, Peterson composed his musical rendition of the Christmas story to remind people of the holiday’s true significance. Since then, he and a remarkable band have performed the songs each holiday season to sold-out crowds nationwide, as well as a highlighted performance in Peterson’s hometown of Nashville, TN at the famed Ryman Auditorium. Past events have featured such artists as Alison Krauss, Buddy Miller, David Wilcox, Phil Keaggy, Mindy Smith, Pierce Pettis, Matt Slocum and members of Nickel Creek, who have joined Peterson for an in-the-round segment of original material before gathering on stage to perform his musical, Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ.
Responding to demand from fans of his Christmas concert, in 2004, Peterson recorded the songs on an album titled Behold the Lamb of God. The album received the 2004 Best Album of the Year, World Christian Music?s Editors Choice Award.
Peterson has long been known for his intricate songwriting and transparent candor on stage, often drawing comparisons to predecessor Rich Mullins. While signed to Watershed/Essential Records from 1999 to early 2004, Peterson recorded three national releases including his award-winning Carried Along, which featured the top ten radio single, “Nothing to Say,” and a Dove Award nomination for his song “Family Man” from his 2003 release Love & Thunder. Peterson signed on with Centricity Music in 2008 and released his critically and commercially acclaimed album Resurrection Letters Vol. 2 that same year. He garnered fantastic reviews for his Resurrection Letters Vol. 2 from such respected media outlets as USA Today, Lifeway.com, Billboard magazine, Worship Leader, magazine, JesusFreakHideout.com, Christian Single magazine, ChristianMusicToday.com, Christian Retailing magazine, Soul-Audio.com, CCM.com to name a few. Peterson has also appeared on Family Net TV's "EveryDay With Marcus & Lisa, LeSea Broadcasting's "Harvest Show," "Atlanta Live," Moody's national radio shows, "Midday Connection" and Prime Time America, and Gospel Music Channel's upcoming Christmas special.
Peterson also released his first novel in 2008 entitled On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness through WaterBrook Press. Full of fast-paced storytelling, fanciful songs and poems, hilarious asides, and characters rich in heart, courage, and smarts, On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, launches a highly- anticipated series of fantasy novels that readers of all ages will treasure, enjoy reading aloud, and use in stirring book group discussion. He released the second of the series, North! Or Be Eaten: Wild escapes. A desperate journey. And the ghastly Fangs of Dang in August 2009. Peterson also released his first children?s book entitled The Ballad of Matthew's Begats in October 2007 through Thomas Nelson. Full of fast-paced storytelling, fanciful songs and poems, hilarious asides, and characters rich in heart, courage, and smarts, North! Or Be Eaten combines adventure, humor and sheer imaginative force. Library Journal, reviewing North! Or Be Eaten, calls it “a delightful tale.” The first book of the Wingfeather Saga, On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness, received positive marks from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, and over a hundred of Peterson’s fans who blogged about the book.
