(Nashville, Tennessee) – June 30, 2010 – Four time SESAC “Songwriter of the Year” Regie Hamm has an undisputed track record of musical genius—never more evident than in the presentation of his newest CD release, “Set It On Fire.”
Just released in June from Tate Music Group, “Set It On Fire” marks a collection of ‘life milestones’ set to music.
A hit artist, producer, and songwriter with multi-Dove and Grammy® Award nominations, Regie Hamm has to date penned 21 #1 hits, many of them in the Christian market for major artists such a Point of Grace, Clay Crosse, Bob Carlisle, and Jaci Velasquez. He hit the Top 20 as a solo artist on the pop charts, and as a writer penned the 2008 American Idol finale song, The Time of My Life, recorded by David Cook and destined to sit atop the Billboard charts for 16 weeks. The song ultimately won SESAC “Song of the Year” honors in 2009.
Setting aside career triumphs, “Set It On Fire” is one man’s spiritual and emotional journey of the heart. Pain and triumph are universal to the human condition and they are captured here in a collection of songs that will speak volumes to anyone who has ever risen, fallen, and ultimately found the joy of redemption.
Central to his inspiration for the new music is his own creative re-birth. In 2003, at the top of his game in the music world, Regie and his wife Yolanda adopted an orphan baby girl from China who was later discovered to have profound special needs. What followed for the Hamms was years of medical mis-diagnosis, insurance denials, a crushing mountain of medical debt, and overwhelming struggles that threatened to permanently end the dreams of music. It was while facing the death of his dreams that The Time of My Life was born.
“Set It On Fire” is personal to Regie—not only in the aspects of the writing and production—but right down to the cover art of an old, upright piano that has been set ablaze. Symbolic that of the ashes of what was, has been born new creative life.
