As one of the earlier "modern worship" bands, SONICFLOOd has been through several member overhauls since its inception, including the entire band changing at one point. However, the general musical style seems to have maintained itself throughout these upheavals - upbeat, pop-rock contemporary worship music, with little originality.
Throughout the album, very few tracks really shine other than the peppy opener, "Look To Love." Even here, the lyrical content is rather vague in its references to letting "love be our guide," and stating quite boldly that, "If we all live for something, then we won't die for nothing." Nice, but hardly worshipful. Only a few others rise above the murk, such as "Psalm 91," "Aiden," and bonus track "Circles," with "Aiden" coming very close to "Look To Love" musically, and surpassing it lyrically.
Personally, I would have liked to have seen a lot more innovation with their sound, instead of the basic "church worship band" stylistic techniques. Half of the tracks would have benefited significantly to have offered more energy. Another downer are some of the rather ill-considered lyrics, which don't fit very well within the worship genre, making A Heart Like Yours more of a pseudo-worship/pop album. A prime example of this would be "Look To Love," but others are spread over the entire album, albeit slightly less obvious to pick up. As a whole, they don't really seem well thought through.
Perhaps one of the album's greatest hindrances is a marked lack of passion and enthusiasm on the part of SONICFLOOd. That, coupled with a lack of freshness and originality, and some confusingly vague lyrical messages, makes for a worship album that seems to mostly miss the mark.
