This is the album: my gateway drug into heavy music. I'll never forgot spinning The Triptych for the first time as a teenager and being absolutely blown away by the combination of aggression and melody in tracks like "Undying" and "Fire To My Soul." As I got older, I also learned to appreciate the slow burn of "The Tide Began To Rise" and the introspection of "Deteriorate." Demon Hunter has now been an institution of the Christian metalcore scene for so long that it's easy sometimes to forget the uniqueness of those first moments of discovery. Their entire discography is impressive, but in my book, this album is their defining moment.
