Perhaps expectations are always unrealistically high when a beloved band comes back from hiatus, but the risk of disappointment with a long-expected album is tremendous. Copeland, however, faced that risk and came back with Ixora, arguably the most diverse and mature album of their long career. Everything that makes Copeland who they are is on full display: the musicality, the sentimentality, the diversity. Ixora is a journey of emotions, but backed by songwriting that belies the often simplistic notion of traditional "emo" music. We were fortunate to have Aaron Marsh and company to return, and even more fortunate for them to return with such a beautiful piece of music.
