Showbread Is Showdead
Release Date: Fall 2015
|
Showbread may not have as many fans as most bands going into their 8th album, but few bands have fans as passionate. Adding that the fittingly-titled Showbread Is Showdead will be their final release (the same year that their long-awaited Cancer film comes out), and I have no doubt that we will soon experience a serious bout of Showbread-mania.

This is an album I didn't think would come so soon. Showbread has nearly two decades of history, and for the band to finally hang up their mics, guitars, keytars, and...well, whatever else they have...is sad news. The spirit of the band will live on with The Bell Jar, but something about it just won't be the same. Now, rumor has it that Showbread Is Showdead is going to feature the legendary lineup from the No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical days, so chances are, we're looking toward an album that will be cut from the same genre cloth. But regardless, this is a band that always defies expectations, and they always go above and beyond to provide the absolute best music they possibly can. And with the upcoming Cancer movie finally in it final stages, this looks to be a good year for raw rock.

With albums that vary wildly both thematically and sonically, it's hard to know what to expect with Showbread Is Showdead, but there are a few things we know for sure: we will be perplexed, we will think deep, and we will mourn the loss of one of the most unpredictable bands in Christian music history.

Showbread has been a band with a revolving door membership, but Josh Dies just keeps releasing really great material. This album is sure to be bittersweet for many. It's the first Showbread record in 3 years (since Cancer), but it is also the group's last planned album. While Showbread may in fact be Showdead after this album, one can only hope that Josh Dies continues his creativity in other musical avenues. In the meantime though, get ready for what can only be anticipated as one of the best albums of the year.
