Verse 1
Look at the homeless man on the street corner Looking for a handout – what can I give him? So much hopelessness in the world… Is one day a year too much to ask of me?

Will I find something in my pocket, my mind, my heart
Which can help this man? – Put him in a brand new car Or at least put a square meal in his hands… Is one day a year too much to ask of me?

Pre-Chorus
And I fight this attitude: Is it better to give than to receive?

Chorus
(It’s a quick, quick buzz…)
…And the feeling goes away.
What can we do to make it stay?
(It’s a quick, quick buzz…)
…And the feeling goes away.
Parting is such sweet sorrow on Christmas Day!

Verse 2
Look at me homeless, my life a wreck.
I’ve made way too many mistakes to count.
I’ve got so much inside that I want to give out.
Is one day a year to much to ask of you?

We overlook many people each and every day.
How many of them were us last year? Reaching out to the hurting…the dying…the lost… Is one day a year too much to ask of us?

Pre-Chorus
And I fight this feeling: Is it better to give than to receive?

Chorus

Statement
We cry, scream, and shout that our own needs aren’t met
Yet, so many are thankful for anything they can get!
