I have lost my interest in this world,
and it has lost its interest in me
I have no desire for earthly things,
no they could never, ever bring
The joy that only comes from knowing
the one and only awesome God
And now I hope a little bit’s showing,
the TV ads and fashion fads got one big problem…
I’m obsessed with the awesome things of God
Obsessed with the love He has for me
I’m blessed knowing that the one thing I possess
Is the Ghost that sets you free
Untainted by the rust and moths,
and painted with the blood of the Son of God
I’m praying, singing, meditating, praising, stating, all I’m saying is I stress I confess,
I’m obsessed!
I have no desire to hear man’s praise,
and they have no desire to praise me
I possess no lust to be approved
for every single little thing I do
The only voice I long to hear is,
the voice of the living God
So even now as I’m singing this song,
let it be known who my zeal and my praise is for…
I’m obsessed with the awesome things of God
Obsessed with the love He has for me
I’m blessed knowing that the one thing I possess
Is the Ghost that sets you free
Untainted by the rust and moths,
and painted with the blood of the Son of God
I’m praying, singing, meditating, praising, stating, all I’m saying is I must stress I confess,
I’m obsessed!
Behind the Song:I’ll never forget where the inspiration for “Obsessed” came from. My little sister and I were grocery shopping one day and as we came to the checkout line in the store, she and I both couldn’t help but notice the “women’s magazines” at the counter. You know, the countless magazines with cover stories like “Bust Your Fat in 10 Days,” or “Be More, Weigh Less.” Anyways, as I stepped forward in line to pay, my 8 year old sister stood still with a puzzled look on her face and I heard her ask, “Steven, do you think I need to go on a diet?” My hear instantly sank. Here is my adorable sister, only 8 years old, and already she’s feeling the pressure of from the world to conform to fit into its impossible mold. We were never meant for that, you know…
