03. Red Wine

Dear Future, Come Get Me
by The Fold

It’s a drag I thought I’d get to know you well. I deny ever declaring this was what I wanted, or what I set out to do. They rip my heart out and they beat it on the floor. It’s the only thing I know. This must be what I set out for so many years ago. I see it written on the wall with all my half written songs. And the red red wine couldn’t change my mind. Two worlds collide, look out that way I see it now. Yeah the red red wine couldn’t change my mind. Every time I try, two worlds collide. Is there a place for us? Look out that way I see it now. It’s a rush, I’m seeing all stars align. I defy ever believing that I couldn’t get there. I wax semi-okay. It’s just the way things go sometimes, when you know what you want but you just can’t seem to make it happen. We’ve been here before (but here we go)

Behind the Song:
“I found an old acoustic recording of something Aaron laid down on my computer--probably from right after we recorded Secrets Keep You Sick. I started free-styling over it. I really liked the fast paced aggression of the verse, but wound up thinking the chorus lacked a hook. Four choruses later, we arrived at this one. Again, it was a studio thing. I was literally piecing the melody together in the vocal booth with the producers and the rest of the band in the control room giving input; there may have even been tears it was so frustrating for me. This song has an undeniable energy that I'm glad made its way onto the record. Lyrically, I said some things about past relationships in the industry that I had to get off my chest. This song is a resolution to love people without pretense, and knowing that I am who I am, with or without them. There is a place for us." - Daniel Castady (The Fold)
