I know as I envision
Your never ending power
Your splendor is more
Than I can imagine
I’ve heard of Your perfections
But I’ve been blind to You
Open my eyes
Open my ears
Open my heart
CHORUS
Unveil my eyes
So I can see Your glory
Unveil my eyes
So I can know You’re here
You’re here
Your love, it overtakes me
And makes me who I am
As I am undone
In light of Your glory
Bridge
Take apart this world
That I have made
Make this heart aware
Of more than me
Reveal to me the depths
Of who You are
And come and teach me like a child
To trust Your heart
WORDS AND MUSIC BY JEFF DEYO AND JONATHAN LEE
Behind the Song:"This song could be titled “Open the Eyes of My Heart,” for that’s the prayer of the song. The Bible tells us in 1
Corinthians 13:11-12, that now we only see things through a glass darkly but that one day in heaven we will see things as He sees them, with perfect clarity. First John 3:3 also tells us that when He returns we will be like Him for we will see Him just as He is. In this world, we are incapable of seeing things exactly as they are, but the life as a Christian is the journey of unveiling of our eyes to see, know and experience things, not as we think they are, but as they truly are from God’s perspective, with His eyes. This song is designed to help us in that process.
Sin and corruption, pain and disappointment in the world, all tend to act as blinders, layered over the eyes of our hearts. Before long it is easy to be unknowingly overcome by a jaded worldview, nearly void of truth. Encountering Jesus can cause the physically blind to see; it can also miraculously open spiritually blind eyes. The blind man in Mark 8:22 saw “men walking like trees” after his first touch from Jesus but then saw with perfect clarity after Jesus’ second touch. We can also see more clearly from every encounter with God.
“Unveil” is a song Jonathan Lee brought me about 5-6 years ago. We developed it from his chorus but when we recorded his five-song EP, Can You Take Me There, we decided it wasn’t a good fit for him, so we shelved it. A couple years later, Jonathan revamped the song for our church youth group and it really took off. As I ran sound for the youth, I really began to enjoy “Unveil” in the worship time. As I began fasting and praying for the things to come in my ministry, I felt a connection to the song with the things God was showing me. I asked Jonathan for permission to use “Unveil” as the title track. He gave me permission and the rest is history. I added a second verse and revamped it musically with my band, and now it is one of the most powerful songs we do!"
