The Best Worst-Case Scenario is a record that expertly executed the style of indie-tinged alternative rock that was rising in popularity. Lead singer and producer Aaron Sprinkle has a knack for strong but unassuming hooks, and each and every song - whether upbeat ("Bide My Crime") or slower ("Pause") - has a chorus that can get stuck in your head. While it's the melodies that draw you in at first, there are so many details about this album that elevate it to a brilliant work of art. The songwriting is comprised of a blend of cryptic and accessible one-liners sung crisply with Sprinkle's distinct, boy-ish vocals. The almost interlude-sounding "Grab Your Coat" breaks the "rule" of the indie alt rock sound, hearkening back to Sprinkle's days in Poor Old Lu both in the song's production and in specific details like the guitar riffs and tone. Overall, this 2006 release is the stronger effort of Fair's two-album discography and a highlight of Tooth & Nail's extensive catalog.
