Jeff Deyo had been around previously, but didn't really become a known name until SONICFLOOd made it big. This move first started by replacing Mark Lee Townsend in the band Zilch. However, after leaving SONICFLOOd in 2000, Deyo began working on his own material again. With his former band being on Gotee, it made sense for Deyo's album
Saturate to be released here as well. Not surprising is the fact that
Saturate is a worship album - featuring a dc Talk-like cover of Michael W. Smith's "More Love, More Power" and an impressive rendition of George Beverly Shea's "I'd Rather Have Jesus" - but the rock and roll vibe musically, however, was a bit more surprising.
Saturate is more rock-oriented than anything SONICFLOOd did. A standout and favorite is definitely "Lose Myself," from which the album's title is taken. Several years ago, I actually introduced this song to a youth group as a new song - and it was well-received. For me,
Saturate not only hits the mark as a good, early worship album, but also works as an enjoyable rock album as well. As a worship leader, Jeff Deyo has always been a hero of sorts to me and it makes me sad that he's not more widely known or recognized for the work he's done in innovating, writing, and teaching.
Saturate deserves its spot among the best album released under the Gotee label and I encourage you to go check this one out if you missed it 18 years ago.
