Back in 2004, worship music didn't quite have the monopoly on the Christian music market like it does today, so there was a lot more room for versatility and artists having a unique voice. Often compared to mainstream legend Janis Joplin vocally, Sarah Kelly brought a raw passion and sound to Christian radio that just wasn't heard often (and definitely doesn't exist now). Her vulnerability was on full display on her Gotee debut,
Take Me Away, and her moving testimony about domestic abuse was just another part of her multi-layered ministry. After being drawn in by the journey of
Take Me Away, seeing her live performance and experiencing her infectious personality just solidified my love for Sarah and her artistry.
While Sarah isn't touring or recording as much today as she was back in the mid-2000's, you can find her mentoring up-and-coming artists at the
Sarah Kelly Music School in The Woodlands, TX.
