#3. TobyMac
Tonight
Release Date: Feb. 9, 2010

2009 didn't see the rise of another solo record from the dc Talker, but its relocation to an early 2010
release date only builds up anticipation even more. Toby's got a large bag of tricks, and though it's fair to
expect greatness, every album has been a treasure in an unexpected way. It's looking more and more like
Tonight will be a universal favorite this year, and it will be for good reason...

Portable Sounds was the project to define Toby as a solo act. If the follow up to that album is
anything like it's predecessor, we're onto a winner!

It will be fascinating to see whether tobyMac continues his march to lobby his music towards
contemporary radio or stay more to his hip-hop roots.

TobyMac seems to be doing well to fill the long void that dc Talk fans have had for the past decade.
He provides the energy, fun, and talent that made fans love him in dc Talk. He provides the perfect
balance of Hip Hop and rock.

Toby has never been one to be consistent with sound, which is why I always look forward to his albums.
His records are pretty diverse, and he provides a little something for everyone to enjoy. “City On Our Knees”
is definitely a change for him, with its auto-tuned soft techno vibe, which made an odd choice for a lead single.
After hearing two other tracks (“Showstopper” and “Get Back Up”), I can safely say that Tonight will be
another incredibly diverse album.
