Jeff Deyo
Unveil

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 11 tracks: 55 minutes, 1 second
Street Date: May 22, 2007

Six years ago, modern worship leader Jeff Deyo left the popular worship band Sonicflood to launch his own solo career. Since then, both sides have never been the same. Sonicflood was started up again from scratch, and every new album that Deyo puts out leaves many searching for what was left of the original group. Deyo's newest release Unveil continues the trend he began years ago.

The majority of the album is a repeat of what the singer does best, original worship tunes with a twist of rock and some electronica thrown in. Usually he does originals and adds a few trademark worship tunes in for good measure. Not so with Unveil. All eleven tracks are straight Deyo tracks, and the album is broken up into three styles, all staying within the modern worship genre. There are songs like "So In Awe," "More In Love," and "Love of God" that the singer really turns up the rock on, and are perfect tracks for someone looking for more guitar and feeling in their worship. But take "Love of God" for instance. The chorus is very monotonous and simple, using lyrics like "The love of God is great / the love of God is good / the love of God runs deep / the love of God," and can possibly lose any kind of impact after repeated listens. Then tracks like "I'll Forever Love Your Name," "Glory Reign Down," and "Falling Down Like Rain" have an alternative pop feel to them, matching that of Jeremy Camp's own original worship tracks (like "Give You Glory" from his newest, Beyond Measure), which make for decent additions to an otherwise disappointing venture into the heart of worship.

Other tracks are slow and inspiring, like "Nothing On Earth," "You Are God," and "Glory," but may lose listeners' interest quickly, as Deyo sings slowly and seems to wait for his audience to understand his words. Overall, fans of Sonicflood and Jeff Deyo's career thus far will find what they've come to expect, but worship fans looking for originality in their music will find very little growth or few differences here.
