I'm sure this comes as no surpise and could have been predicted, but the first entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still one of the film series' best, and life-changing role for Robert Downey, Jr. So many good things will follow because of this movie!

Honorable Mentions: The Dark Knight. Marvel versus DC! I've never considered myself a fanboy of either comic franchise, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe has turned my allegiance mostly toward the Marvel world. The Dark Knight is another amazing film, but it's so dark, and it encouraged Warner Bros. to make the DC movies that followed equally dark, that it seems to have hurt the genre more than helped it. Still, that Joker performance from Heath Ledger is now legendary, and it's especially unfortunate that playing it helped lead to his untimely death that year.
