I'm a deft communicator at times I've won applause
But performance leaves me saddled with a darkness that still gnaws
The compliments and thankyous slip and I'm left all alone
After playing the sage on stage I feel I'm far from home

I don't need to be great just need to be true
What's the point of doing tricks if I'm far from You

Strip it all away the show and the facade
I just want a heart that's honest with my God
Not posturing in pride but a love that's whole
A quiet fire burning warm in my soul

The masks I wore never fit quite right
A shiny hollow shell made for the spotlight
But I've learned You delight in the small and the real
A humble contrite heart is the treasure You seal

I don't need to be great just need to be true
What's the point of doing tricks if I'm far from You

Strip it all away the show and the facade
I just want a heart that's honest with my God
Not posturing in pride but a love that's whole
A quiet fire burning warm in my soul

Let my prayers be more than words
Let my songs be more than heard
Teach my heart to truly yield
To live the truth Your light revealed

Strip it all away the show and the facade
I just want a heart that's honest with my God
Not posturing in pride but a love that's whole
A quiet fire burning warm within my soul

No trophies or crowns just the peace I seek
To walk with You humble and meek
The lasting measure is not what I do
But living a life that's true to You
